The Marc Jacobs fashion and design company is the creation of its namesake, who is an American Fashion Designer and maintains positions of chief designer for his worldwide brand of world class product and creations. Jacobs also recently took up the position of Creative Director for the elite fashion house of Louis Vuitton.

Born in the city of New York City, Marc Jacobs was raised in New Jersey where he lived with his Mother, sister and brother. Alongside Teaneck High School, Jacobs additionally attended the New York High School of Art and Design, graduating easily with his born talent and abilities. At the age of fifteen, in order to put his huge interest to practical use, Jacobs took on a job as 'stockboy' at an avant-garde boutique located in New York City known as Charivari. He subsequently studied art and design at The New School, where he also took on the position of captain of the University's ballet team. During an additional tenure at Parsons, his achievements were recognized and he was fittingly endowed with a number of awards. Truly, his talents and abilities had been noticed by the outside world. During his time at Parsons, Jacobs sold his very first collection of personally designed hand-made sweatshirts, in addition to designing a further collection for Reuben Thomas.

When Jacobs concluded his studies at Parsons, he commenced a period in which he designed at the Perry Ellis company after the prior death of the company's founder. Jacobs made a name for himself on the fashion scene as result of designing something of a grunge collection for the Perry Ellis label, which subsequently lead to him being dismissed during 1993.

With his counterpart Robert Duffy, who had been his business partner and creative assistant the 1980s, Jacobs Duffy Designs incorporated was officially founded and has continues to operate right up to the present day. The two remain the best of friends and close business advisors to each other. 1986 saw Jacobs, with the backing of Onward Kashiyama USA, release his very first design collection featuring under the Marc Jacobs brand name, earning him the title of youngest designer ever to receive the highest tribute in the fashion industry.

Both Robert Duffy and Marc Jacobs joined the female design department of Tristan Russo as President and Vice President respectively during 1989. In the year 1992, the Council of Fashion Designers of America further adorned Jacobs with a huge badge of honour in the form of the Women's Designer of the Year award, which coincided with Jacob and Duffy finally admitting the details of their dismissal from Perry Ells.

1994 saw Jacobs release his very first collection of designer menswear upon the fashion world to huge acclaim.

Marc Jacobs remains something of a permanent figurehead of the fashion and celebrity scenes of New York City, which is understandable due his somewhat celebrity status in his own right. Celebrities such as Vincent Gallo and Kim Gordon regularly occupy prominent seats at Marc Jacobs' fashion shows among countless other adoring famous faces.

The majority of the collections Marc Jacobs design contain some degree of inherent reference to the past, ranging from 80s influence right back to the 1940s. This has spurred some of the more high ranking figures in the fashion industry such as Oscar de la Renta to accuse Jacobs of copying his ideas, simply regurgitating ideas from the past in his own designs. However, Jacobs has responded quite openly to such accusations by insisting he makes absolutely no pretence that ideas in the fashion world are simply the creation of a single genius mind.

May 2010 saw Jacobs continue his high profile appearances with the hosting of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala in New York City alongside catwalk legend Kate Moss.

His abilities, attributes, influence and accomplishments have culminated in Jacobs being ranked as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.
