Miss Selfridge Is Still Going Strong
After more than half a century Miss Selfridge is still one of the most highly rated makes of clothing for women.
Miss Selfridge was first started many decades ago as just one section of the world famous Selfridges store that catered to clothing for young people. This was in nineteen hundred and sixty seven and it was such a success that it has since spun off into a very successful stand alone franchise that has many stores around the United Kingdom and an outlet in every single Selfridge store. It just took a couple of years for the brand to become so successful that in nineteen hundred and sixty nine, there were even a few stand alone stores on the high streets in London.
The history of Miss Selfridge is very interesting as when it was started, it actually consisted of dresses made out of paper that were meant to be worn once or twice and then thrown away. Selfridge owner Charles Clore commissioned a number of very famous designers to design a few lines of clothes for the new line, including one of the most famous couturiers ever, Pierre Cardin, who was hired to design four lines of clothing for the new brand name every year. This led to a lot of success for the brand as the young and even the older people flocked to the stores to buy the well styled and well priced clothing that the company was selling.
Miss Selfridge was also a pioneering brand as far as advertising and marketing went as they did some of the most path breaking promotions and advertising campaigns with some of the most iconic super models of the nineteen hundred and eighties and the nineteen hundred and nineties including the first major ad campaigns for some of the world's most famous super models even today.
In the year two thousand and ten, the brand once again showed some amazing marketing savvy by tying up with one of the most popular television shows of the time called gossip girl, that was targeted at young people and they also launched a line of clothing called the gossip girl collection. It was a line up of the clothing that was featured on the gossip girl show and this has been one of the most successful tie ups of this decade as it has brought recognition and new customers to the Selfridge brand from a whole new generation of women. Today, the brand sells its clothing at thousands of retail stores and on the internet at some of the most well known online retailers.
